Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and US Army personnel conducted missile-firing drills to strengthen their capabilities in responding to aerial threats during the 2026 Super Garuda Shield (SGS) Joint Exercise.
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto said Thursday that SGS is an annual exercise involving 21 countries, with 4,743 personnel participating in 12 training activities.
"The Super Garuda Shield is held annually in Indonesia, with 21 countries attending this year. The total number of personnel participating in the training is 4,743, with 12 activities being conducted," he said in a press statement.
The missile-firing exercise took place at the Indonesian Navy Shooting Range in Martapura, South Sumatra, on Wednesday (September 9).
The exercise also sought to enhance interoperability and harmonize TNI and US Army procedures for operating heavy weapons systems.
During the exercise, all personnel operated their respective artillery systems.
The Arhanud 10/Dam Jaya Battalion operated Mistral missiles, while the US Army used Stinger missiles.
According to Subiyanto, all the exercises were completed successfully without incident.
He added that the exercise was expected to improve personnel marksmanship while strengthening relations between the two countries' armed forces.
SGS 2026 involves 4,743 personnel from 21 countries: Indonesia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, India, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, Laos, New Zealand, France, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
The exercises were designed to assess troop readiness, strengthen defense diplomacy, and enhance the participants' ability to respond to various security challenges.
This year's training took place in Bandung, Jakarta, Lampung, the Indonesian Navy Combat Training Center in Baturaja, South Sumatra, and Nunukan, North Kalimantan, from August 31 to September 11, 2026.
The SGS 2026 exercise is scheduled to conclude in Jakarta on September 11, 2026.
