Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is targeting nationwide distribution of 50 percent biodiesel fuel (B50) at all gas stations by October 1, 2026.
"The target is to achieve full B50 distribution at all gas stations by October 1," the ministry's Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation, Eniya Listiani Dewi, said on Monday.
She said the implementation of the mandatory B50 program, which began on July 1, will be implemented in phases during a three-month transition period, before a comprehensive evaluation in December.
This three-month transition period is intended to allow fuel suppliers to deplete remaining B40 stocks and adjust the blending process to B50, she added.
"In December, we will first assess the transition to determine whether it has proceeded smoothly and whether everyone can achieve full B50 within three months period," Eniya said.
The ministry has recorded that at least 57 percent of gas stations are already distributing B50 fuel, with the figure expected to continue increasing over the coming months.
Indonesia officially launched the mandatory B50 biodiesel program in July 2026 as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and strengthen national energy security.
The ministry estimates the B50 implementation in 2026 will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 44.46 million tons of CO2 equivalent.
This figure is an increase from the foreign exchange savings and emissions reductions achieved under the B40 program in 2025.
With the implementation of the B50 mandate, Indonesia has become the first country to mandate a 50 percent biodiesel blend in diesel fuel, building on the B30, B35, and B40 programs that have been implemented for more than a decade.
In addition to reducing carbon emissions, the B50 mandate is also projected to save around Rp170 trillion (US$9.1 billion) in foreign exchange by 2026, increase the added value of CPO, and support about 2.1 million jobs.
